Mahebourg Waterfront Festival

From the 25th to 27th December 2009 the L'Esplanade of the Mahebourg Waterfront celebrated a 3 day Hare Krishna festival organised by Sundara Lal prabhu, the IYF and the Radha Golokananda Festival Team.

On the evening of Friday the 25th the ISKCON Mauritius youth (IYF, IGF and Vaikuntha Vibes, Namashraya Bhajan group) rocked the crowd. The evening opened with the IGF girls accompanying Krsna das prabhu with a beautiful rendition of the Jagannatha Astakam. The Vaikunta Vibes had everyone dancing and chanting exuberantly. Vrindavan Vishakha mataji and her dance group also enlivened the crowd with a beautiful dance to "Bow Down Mister". Photos of the event may be viewed here.

The next afternoon, Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra were pulled through Mahebourg on a grand Ratha-yatra parade. Partha Sarathi prabhu(who served in Iraq)and His Holiness Bhakti Dhir Damodar Maharaja (from Nigeria) led the devotees in very lively kirtan most of the way. The cultural programme in the evening opened with a lively dance from the Sunday Gurukul children of Surinam. His Holiness Bhakti Dhir Maharaja then spoke on Lord Jagannath. The girls of the IGF performed the Drama of Lord Jagannath and Parijata, Natbar prabhu (the first Mauritian devotee)'s daughter performed a classical dance depicting Sri Sri Radha Krsna's pastimes. On the afternoon of Sunday the 27th utsava Sri Sri Radha Golokananda were taken for a boat ride in a beautiful swan boat. Pirogues (local boats) carried the devotees who accompanied the Lord with sweet kirtan. The Namasraya bhajan group filled filled the atmosphere with spiritual sound vibration and in the evening His Grace Partha Sarathi prabhu spoke. His class may be heard here. The cultural programme included a mime by some IYF youth and an entertaining drama by the young girls who had spent their school holidays distributing books and collecting for this festival under the care of Satyabhama mataji. The festivities ended with a roaring outdoor kirtan and firework display. It was a perfect ending to 2009 and left the devotees looking forward to a new year of increased service to Lord Krishna.
