Every year, in Mauritius, attendance of the Sri Krishna Janmasthami celebrations grows. This year ISKCON's main temples, the Sri Sri Radha Golokananda Mandir and the Sri Sri Krishna Balarama Mandir, received about 50, 000 guests. After taking darshan of the beautiful deities in their new outifts,

guests could choose to attend a cultural programme of talks, dances, dramas, bhajans and kirtans in the main tents; dance and chant to Krishna bands in youth tents; watch presentations from the children's gurukulas in the Kid's Corner; ask questions in the Scientific Basis of Krishna Consciousness booth; learn how to do japa meditation in the Japa Tent; listen to bhajans in the Harinam Tent; buy spiritual items at the gift tables and enjoy a wide variety of vegetarian snacks as well as a free vegetarian meal. At 23h30, everyone gathered in the main tent for the Lord's abhishek ceremony and midnight arati. You may view photos of the event here.

This year's guest speaker, His Grace Sarvabhauma Prabhu, was invited to give class in Grand Bois temple and also travelled to Bon Acceuil on the other side of the island to give the main lecture that would be broadcast live on national TV, the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). To make it on time for this event, the Government of Mauritius provided him with police escort, just as they do for important dignitaries. Prabhu delivered a very wonderful discourse in Hindi which was viewed by thousands of Mauritians.

The Janmasthami programmes at both temples were broadcast live, in duplex, on the MBC.

ISKCON Mauritius extends its heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed with donations, in kind and with their service for making this festival a great success.
