On Saturday 17th November, devotees of the Hare Krishna Land, Phoenix and ISKCON Vedic Farm, Bon Acceuil congregations celebrated Srila Prabhupada’s disappearance day. At Phoenix, Mukunda Datta Prabhu inaugurated the day with the mangal arati kirtan as the devotees congregated to mark this most important day. It is said by the acharyas that there is no difference between the appearance and disappearance day of a pure devotee as Srila Prabhupada. No doubt, it was about a solemn offering of devotion but the ecstatic mood of the devotees lit up everyone’s heart. The class given by His Grace Sriman Arjuna Prabhu accentuated the pastimes of Srila Prabhupada just before his leaving his body. The exchanges with his disciples enlivened everyone as they engaged in their respective service to the Deities and also to prepare the feasts for the day.

In the evening, the festivities were marked by a packed audience of devotees having come to offer Srila Prabhupada his last arati. At 7.20 pm, Giridhari Prabhu indicated it was time for the Guru Puja. The kirtan by Sriman Mukunda Datta Prabhu no less electrifying, it was heartwarming to witness the love, devotion and appreciation of the congregation for our jagatguru Srila Prabhupada. Four senior devotees then proceeded with a 15-minute speech on Srila Prabhupada, especially emphasizing certain key aspects which are noteworthy. The devotees broached such topics of importance such as the quality of devotee association, the recognition of the lifelong hardwork invested by Prabhupada in creating ISKCON, the futility of trying to understand Krsna consciousness from a material perspective, the vainness of having a material agenda vis-à-vis devotional service, the fact that the movement should be very much concerned with devotee care since Srila Prabhupada was very much aggrieved when someone left the movement, how Srila Prabhupada foiled the plans of unscrupulous and opportunistic people in the days when Iskcon’s assets were increasing exponentially, and the institution and ultimate authority of the GBC in Iskcon.

Following the 9-o’clock arati, sumptious prasadam was served. The patience, hardwork and devotion of all the devotees who contributed to making this day of success should be recognized and it is our humble attempt to extend our heartfelt prayers and well-wishes to all of them.
