Tyep A: Essay Competition: Open to all Mauritian nationals below the age of 25 years

Essay Title: Discuss the concept of sustainable development with reference to the Bhagavad Gita As It Is.
(Maximum 2000 words)

Conditions for participation
1.Participants should be residents of Mauritius.
2.Essay should be written in English.
3.Each entry must be original and free from plagiarism (the action of taking someone else's work, ideas, etc., and passing these off as one's own. This includes books, web articles, lectures etc). If one is quoting or has been inspired by someone else, that person should be acknowledged in the essay.
4.All references to the Bhagavad-Gita should be from His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada’s Bhagavad-Gita As It Is.
5.All entries should be sent by registered post to the following address:

6.All entries should reach the above address on or before Friday the 29th of November 2013.
7.Essay submissions should be accompanied by a completed form which you can download or copy from here

Type B: Elocution Competition

Format: The contest will take place at a particular venue (to be confirmed) where participants will need to arrive at least one and a half hours before the contest is due to start. Participants will be given one hour to prepare a 15-minute presentation on a question covering one of the topics below.

Topics on which questions will be set: Isvara, Jiva, Prakriti, Karma, Kala (the five main subject matters of the Bhagavad Gita)

Conditions for participation:
1. Participants should be of Mauritian nationality and below the age of 25 years.
2.The presentation should be in English.
3.Participants will be allowed to bring a copy of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is, notes and any other material (including laptops) required for the preparation of the presentation, in the venue. No mobile phones will be allowed.
4.All references to the Bhagavad-Gita should be from His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada's Bhagavad-Gita As It Is.
5. Participants should be available for the pre-selection process which will take place on Saturday the 27th of July. They should also be available on the day of the final, which will take place on Saturday the 10th of August, in case selected. 6. Prizes for Essay Competition and Elocution Competition:
1st prize: Air ticket Mauritius-Delhi-Mauritius and a one-week guided tour of places of interest in and around Delhi.
Other prizes will include a shield, books, CDs and gift vouchers.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
The prize-giving ceremony will be held during a cultural event marking the advent of the Srimad Bhagavad-Gita, to be held on Friday the 13th of December 2013 at the Octave Wiehe Auditorium, University of Mauritius, Reduit.

Bhagavad-Gita Verses Recitation
7 years and younger (10 verses)
8 to 10 years (15 verses)
11 to 14 years (20 verses)
