Mahebourg Waterfront Festival

The 8th annual Hare Krsna Waterfront Festival at Mahebourg was celebrated with increased enthusiasm this year. On the request of Sundara Lala prabhu, the festival coordinator, several devotees from India assisted the Mauritian team in making this grand event a success. The devotees were all blessed by the presence

of His Holiness Bhakti Caitanya Swami Maharaj and Bhakti Anugraha Janardhan Swami Maharaj who delivered enlightening lectures and led ecstatic kirtans. HH Bhakti Caitanya Swami affirmed that the Snan Yatra was the best and most opulent one that he has attended till now. After a maha abhishek of Lord Jagganath, Baladev and Subhadra, flowers were showered on the deities and the Snan Yatra festival ended with one of the most opulent arti ever offered to the Lord in Mauritius. Devotees danced and jumped in ecstasy as HH Bhakti Caitanya Swami led kirtan.

On the second day of the festival, the Jagganath Ratha Yatra took place followed by a cultural programme. Their Lordships Sri Sri Jagganath, Baladev and Subhadra went out on their chariots to give darshan to thousands of people in a procession from the Beau Vallon village to Mahebourg Waterfront. Devotees, along with the Sanyasis and HG Mahatma Das danced along the streets and pulled the 30 feet-high chariot back to Mahebourg. Thousands of people joined the procession and kirtan echoed everywhere, purifying the whole neighborhood. Many booths had been set up, covering various aspects of the Krishna Consciousness movement and enhancing the festive atmosphere such as Kids Corner, Srila Prabhupada Books, Face Painting, 'Questions and Answers' and cooking demonstrations. All of these helped to keep the people busy and engaged in transcendental activities at the Waterfront.
In honour of the 50th anniversary of Srila Prabhupada’s prophetic voyage to the West and his subsequent contributions to the world, The Goloka Players enacted a drama entitled “The Jaladuta Yatra”. Other stage programmes which kept the crowds' attention were dances by the ISKCON Youth girls, The Vaikuntha Vibes and Mahatma prabhu’s kirtans.

The Radha Krishna Boat Festival was organised on the third and last day in a very unique style this year, with more than 50 boats sailing in the lagoon renamed 'New Manasi Ganga' by His Holiness Bhakti Caitanya Swami. This year, along with Radha Krsna, Lord Jagganath Baladev Subhadra as well as Gaura Nitai were also taken out into the lagoon for a boat trip. Some devotees even managed to dance for the pleasure of the lord in the little swaying boats while others sang the glories of Sri Sri Radha Golokananda. Arti was performed and maha Prasad of the deities was distributed among the devotees in the various boats while still at sea. To conclude the festival Ganga arti was perfomed, followed by fireworks for the pleasure of the Lord and the devotees.
