The Appearance of Lord Krishna

We read from Srimad-Bhagavatam, Canto Ten, Chapter Two: “Prayers by the Demigods for Lord Krsna in the Womb.”

tato jagan-mangalam acyutamsam samahitam sura-sutena devi dadhara sarvatmakam atma-bhutam kastha yathananda-karam manastah

Thereafter, accompanied by plenary expansions, the fully opulent Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is all-auspicious for the entire universe, was transferred from the mind of Vasudeva to the mind of Devaki. Devaki, having thus been initiated by Vasudeva, became beautiful by carrying Lord Krsna, the original consciousness for everyone, the cause of all causes, within the core of her heart, just as the east becomes beautiful by carrying the rising moon.

Today's world is moving at an incredible pace. We are all bombarded by an incredible amount of information - emails, newspapers, magazines, news, TV channels, movies, cinemas. Not to speak of the content - violence, crime, accidents, wars, drug abuse, rape, suicide.
Today's adult is frustrated with his job, stressed with the responsibilities and ever increasing demands.
The child is not spared neither. Even a superficial analysis of the variety of exposures a child receives today, is enough to scare us about their future. The media and internet expose the child to violence, insanity, pornography and so much stimulations that it is difficult for the child not to succumb.

Renunciation In Royal Dress

Perhaps you’ve heard a tale of some wealthy person who renounced this world for the service of God. The Fifth Canto of the Srimad-Bhagavatam relates another kind of story: that of an adept renunciant who becomes a king on the order of the Supreme Lord. Can he resist the pleasures of palace life? Can he spiritually survive? What can today’s man of the world learn from Priyavrata a royal renunciant at the dawn of civilization?

First Among Kings

Long ago, the normally peaceful wise men of a Vedic kingdom forcibly deposed an intolerably corrupt ruler. But instead of replacing him with another unprincipled politician (as has so often happened in the history of the world), they selected a perfect chief executive to command the state. The story of this ancient coup d’etat holds many lessons for the people of nations victimized by unworthy leaders.
